Audi Global Business Case Competition (Audi GBCC) is a competition hosted by Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Beppu, Japan. It was held during 11 – 17 October 2016. The competition is wholly organized by students at APU. Thammasat University is one of the participating team among 12 top teams from around the world. The represented team from Thammasat consists of Nontakarn Tantisrisuk (BBA#22), Prin Samalapa (BBA#22), Tanat Luengvarinkul (BBA#22) and Thanawut Lertsakornsiri (BBA#23) with faculty mentor Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapan Yorabil.

We stated off our trip with a casual day at Beppu, a beautiful city situated in the southern part of Japan. After that we kick started the competition with a short case, a 5-hour case, which the ranking will determine the division that we would compete against in the long case, a 24-hour case. The short-case is about blue roses and carnations, engineered by Suntory a large conglomerate in Japan. The objective of the case is they wanted us to market this flowers, so called “APPLAUSE” and “MOONDUST”, in our country. The expectation was high, because this would determine our division and, thus, our chance of making to the final. After a tough 5 hours of debating and data synthesis, we have constructed a 10-page Powerpoint presentation. Then, we have another 2 days of invaluable experience in Beppu and Yufuin. The excursion was a fantastic and culture-rich experience for us. The culture and nature of Japan will always remain in our memory forever.

Just before the long-case, we knew of the most heartbroken news that anyone of us had ever experienced, our King, King Bhumibol had passed away. Amidst all the sorrows, we decided as a team that we had to deliver the best performance to represent Thailand and to honor him. Then the challenge came, we had to provide a recommendation on “Jinzai war” or “Talent war” in Japan. The challenges for foreign companies, as for Audi, are even higher. Nonetheless, after a sleepless night and intense argument, we had come to an agreement. There is nothing comparing to honor his majesty the king, on a global stage, and pass through to the final round. Our feelings are indescribable, filled with gratitude and pride. On the final day, we did our best; as a result, we came in third, but that is already exceed our expectation.

All in all, we believe that without all the support from our advisor; namely, Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapan Yorabil, Ajarn Supawat Likittanawong, Dr. Worapong Janyangyuen and Dr. Nopporn Ruangwanit, we would not have achieved what we did in this competition. The appreciation also goes to all the faculty’s staffs that always take a good care of us and work tirelessly prior to and after the event. Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity, in remembrance of our great King, King Bhumibol, who had sacrifice so much for our country. Without him we would not be able to compete and be recognized globally as we did. Even though, he is not with us anymore, he will always remain in our hearts and memories.
