Looking back at the Titanic disaster of 100 years ago, the story is known worldwide. Why the so-called unsinkable ship had happened to cause tremendous loss in which later found out that this tragedy could have been avoided.

It all became crystal-clear when we put this into a risk perspective. Risk is simply everywhere as no strategy is perfect. Also, for business no matter how big or small, there is an inevitable need for Risk Intelligence as a gateway to real success.

This year, Deloittes ASEAN Risk Intelligence Challenge was conceived to bring in representative teams from 5 ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand to compete in which to find the best revolutionary ideas equipped with risk management under the concept Start-up, Risk and You”.

As Thailand representative, Nutthanit Jirachaiprasit, Onvara Sripurijanya, Pawitchaya Thanaprachum, and I, Anuttri Kaewkiew from BBA 22 had came up with the idea of mobile app to facilitate the organization of sport gatherings and tournaments. We were all excited about presenting not only our business proposal but also our risk analysis and mitigation plan. It has been over months that we worked on this idea, practiced our pitching, and received numerous advices and feedbacks from our mentor and Deloitte Thailand team, which all made us went on to win the Championship title.

The three-day journey in Singapore from July 27-29, 2016 went fast yet intense. On the first day prior to the competition, we had been involved in Design Thinking workshop and mentoring session by Deloitte consultants providing useful insights and frameworks that even enhance our performance.

Leading to our teams victory, we had to first present to a panel of renowned judges our business idea and risk mitigation focused on the analysis of feasibility and global sustainability of our start-up. Also, on the second day, we had to set up our booth and prepare materials to market and pitch our business ideas to Deloitte internal staffs who entitled to vote for the best business ideas. The results were collated from both days of the competition.

Besides the Champion trophy we have brought home, this learning experience and opportunity we attained along the way is worthwhile and valuable. Ultimately, we would like to thank everyone for dedicating your time and effort into our team. Without this generous support, it would not have been possible for us to cultivate this success.
