Field Trip HO321 New Venture Creation and Entrepreneurship

19.2.jpg
On Saturday 22, April our class had the opportunity to visit Premier Group as part of New Venture and Entrepreneurship course activity. Khun Duangthip Eamrungroj, Premier’s Executive Director, personally came to give us a lecture on Social Entrepreneurship.
We learnt about the double bottomline and the need to managing profit and social aspects of the business. Balancing between maximising value creation and value appropriation to create sustainability both for the company and for other stakeholders. In addition to this, we also learnt the concept of 3 pillars for Harmonious alignment of success. A company must take care of more than just organisation to ensure that it is running well, but also, its employee and society.
Social Entrepreneurship is not just engaging in Corporate Social Responsibility activities. It is, as khun Duangthip put it, “Making money while also doing something good for the community.” And Premier is doing exactly that. With two big running projects, Premier is doing its part to help the society.

The first is Pungun, a project to create a sharing community. Pungun allows anyone to donate any item that is useable to it. These items are then sold in Pungun shop to create the funding to be use on giving scholarship to students who need it but lack the funding. This project is a great example of what khun Duangthip defined as Social Entrepreneurship. Instead of creating burden for other sections of the company and having to decrease the funding during recession, this project runs and sustains itself. The children needs to go to school regardless of the economic condition.
Seri Market is the second project we were introduced to. Seri Market is a marketplace aims to nurture Thai’s friendly and caring culture found in the local marketplace while modernising it. Seri Market gives small business owners the opportunity to open shops in a well managed space at a low cost. The place also offers the community a modernised market to shop for quality, fresh, selected food.
After the lecture in Premier’s private meeting room, khun Duangthip gave us a guided tour around Seri Market and visiting a branch of Pungun shop. Some of us even brought along items to donate to Pungun. After which we had lunch and said goodbye to a great morning.
The trip was very informative yet fun and lively. We’ve learnt many valuable lessons about social entrepreneurship. On behalf of the class, I would like to thank Premier group for allowing us to visit and khun Duangthip for personally giving us the lecture and guiding us on the outing. Most importantly, I would like to thank BBA program for giving us this wonderful opportunity.
